Fear!
![]() |
It won’t be an exaggeration to say that every man has within him some elements of what we call social fear. It could manifest itself in any form but most often we see it in men who are chronically shy. Men who are painfully afraid of social interaction and just can’t confront any bold communication with women. This is not to say that being hesitant is some kind of a problem, its how you deal with it is what makes the real difference.
Many people tend to think that they have been born heroic. That they have never felt fear and can do anything
and everything with absolute ease. Let me tell you a secret. They are lying when they are saying so. No man is born brave. Every man, even if he is courageous feels fear in his gut at least once in a lifetime. It is how fast you get to face this fear so that you can combat it.
What a horrible let down it would be to know that heroic acts are simply done because of one’s genes, not because of one’s own ability to fight with it. If you feel hesitant about talking to women or even interacting with them, the best way to break the ice is to pretend to be confident enough. As far as my experience in life goes, I can tell you that being courageous is a conscious choice made by us.
Let me explain it. If I surf waves that are a certain size over than what I usually surf, I certainly feel nauseous in my gut facing it for the first time but as long as it does not stop me from acting or sill going for it, it is absolutely fine to feel that way. Even if I am thrown away in the water, I won’t feel ashamed of the fact that I at least tried confronting it. Soon there’ll be a time when even this wave will start looking small to me.
So to do something even though you’re scared to death while doing it, is in itself a thing of beauty and should not be looked down upon. Similarly if you are new to something, at least try facing it once, try interacting with someone you feel you can and then see the difference. If you are appreciated for the show you have put up, you have it in you already! Just be yourself and focus on your core ability which is never to stop trying until you succeed.
